Bed Bug Exclusion
Bed bugs are considered difficult to control, which is why Bug Commander (BC) requires a minimum of two treatments to get rid of bed bugs. Bed Bug exclusions typically take 1-2 hours to complete and can be scheduled within a 2 hour window if necessary.
The success of this service depends on the completion of client responsibilities listed below. A 90-day warranty will be provided should all necessary areas be treated and the client complete their responsibilities. Receiving a warranty will be determined by the BC technician performing the service.
Client responsibilities before the initial treatment:
Exposed clothing on the floor, in cabin beds, and in beds with built-in storage: Remove and wash all of exposed clothing in the infested room with the hottest water possible. Once washed, dry these clothes on the hottest dryer cycle for a minimum of 40 minutes. Place these clean and dry clothes in a large garbage bag sealed at the top in a different room until the final treatment has been completed.
Dressers and closets: It is not necessary to remove clean clothing or other items from inside of dressers and closets unless these items are clearly heavily infested with visible bed bugs. Knickknacks and other items can be left in place.
Bedding: Remove all sheets, covers, dust ruffles, comforters, pillows, and any other bedding covers from the mattress and box spring in ALL bedrooms. Wash all bed linens in the hottest water possible. Once washed, dry these items on the hottest dryer cycle for a minimum of 40 minutes. Important: Not doing this step will result in control failure and void the warranty.
De-clutter: This will assist in removing potential bed bug harborages.
Facilitate perimeter access: Move all furniture items away from the walls to allow BC’s technician access to the base boards around the entire room.
Baseboards: Vacuum baseboards to remove dust build-up from these areas. Remove the vacuum cleaner bag or contents of the canister, place in a plastic bag, and dispose of in the trash can outside your home. Wash the canister in hot water afterwards.
Pets: Keep cats and dogs out of the treated area during service and after the treatment for a minimum of 4 hours. Cover fish tanks, terrariums, and small animal cages with a clean towel or sheet.
Please do NOT self-treat before or after BC’s service visits as these products will not allow our treatment to work correctly and may void the warranty.
What clients can expect during this service:
- Inspection
- Installation of bed bug monitors (required) and box spring/mattress encasements (if desired)
- Interior treatment using baits, dusts, aerosols, or liquid products pending the infestation
- Notification of any major issues that need to be addressed to prevent re-infestation and in order to receive a warranty
Client responsibilities after this service:
For safety: Do not re-enter treated areas for a minimum of 4 hours after this service.
For control: Do not spray any pesticides or cleaning products in/on the treated areas after the treatment. Doing so will render the treatment ineffective resulting in a control failure and voided warranty.
Do not clean or remove the spray barriers: In most cases, barriers will have been applied in inconspicuous areas, but, if an infestation was suspected behind baseboards or electrical outlets, a 2” spray barrier may have been applied on the wall above or around these installations. Under certain lighting conditions, these barriers may be visible. Leave these in place until you are certain that the infestation has been eradicated. The barrier will remain active for up to 3 months if left undisturbed, but is easily removed with kitchen or bathroom cleaner when required.
Allow the treatment time to work: Live bed bugs may be visible for 2-3 weeks after the treatment. Affected bugs may be seen wandering in unusual places, this is a sign that the treatment is working. Remember that bed bugs may not leave their harborages for a number of days after treatment, and nymphs hatching from eggs will not be affected until they cross a spray barrier. All bed bugs will die within 3-7 days after coming into contact with the products applied. Contact Bug Commander if you still see live bed bugs 30 days after treatment.
