Rat Exclusion
Rats are considered difficult to control, which is why Bug Commander (BC) requires a minimum of three treatments to get rid of rats. Rat exclusions typically take 1 hour to complete and can be scheduled within a 2 hour window if necessary.
The success of this service depends on the completion of client responsibilities listed below. A 120-day warranty will be provided should all necessary areas be treated, the client complete their responsibilities, and if the building can be completely sealed. Receiving a warranty will be determined by the BC technician performing the service.
Client responsibilities before the initial treatment:
Prep the kitchen: Rodents are always looking for food, so preparing the kitchen is a crucial step. All food must be sealed and securely stowed away in the pantry or refrigerator. Any damaged or rotten food items must be disposed of. The spaces on top of and around the fridge, stove, and sink must be cleared off.
Clean up trash and boxes: Any debris/trash must be swept, vacuumed, and cleaned. Indoor and outdoor trash bins must have lids. Boxes, bins, and other storage items should be folded or closed and stowed away to prevent any unnecessary hiding spots.
Take notes of rodent sightings: Clients may write a list of all of the places they have seen rodents or evidence of them such as droppings, urine, and damage.
Safety prep: Clients must dispose of any rodent urine or feces quickly and carefully. It’s important to not touch these items with bare skin as rodent waste can carry many diseases and should be dealt with carefully.
What clients can expect during these services:
- Inspection
- Installation of bait stations and traps
- Plugged and patched minor entry points that are 1 inch or smaller in size using special foam, steel wool, rodent fabric, and caulking (during third visit)
- Notification of control inhibitors such as food debris or bird feeders
- Notification of extensive entry points that are over 1 inch in size that may need to be repaired by you or a contractor to prevent re-infestation and in order to receive a warranty
Important: BC’s rodent bait stations are locked and weighted with the bait secured inside. These stations are placed in specific locations for the best control. These stations should not be moved unless otherwise instructed by a BC technician. To maintain a safe environment, clients need to be mindful of where the bait stations are located and report any stations that are damaged. BC will remove and replace any damaged bait stations from these reports.
Client responsibilities after these services:
Clients should expect a rodent-free structure should the structure be completely sealed and attractants are removed. If a structure is unable to be completely sealed, the client should still notice a significant decrease in the rodent population trying to get inside. Although this is a thorough process, long-term prevention services may be needed pending the integrity of the structure.
Traps: Snap traps may be strategically placed on the interior. The client may re-bait and reset these traps in the same area to maintain control.
Deceased rodents: Dead rodents may be seen in various locations. When a rodent is trapped or found dead, it is very important to wear gloves and discard it right away in a garbage bag and into a garbage can outside.
Droppings, urine, and nesting materials: Droppings, urine, and nesting materials should be cleaned up immediately to avoid rodent-borne diseases and pathogens. These areas can be cleaned with a household disinfectant cleaner while wearing gloves and a mask. Always dispose of any rags or towels used in this process.
